Sports Premium

In 2022-2023 the school is allocated £17,680 Sports Premium Funding.  Please read the information below which gives details about how we allocate the spending.

At St Laurence Primary School we are committed to developing the whole child physically through high quality Physical Education, which is supported by a competitive annual calendar of school sport. In addition to this, we also provide physical activities for children who want to dance and become active outside the means of school sport.

Each year we hold a sports event for the whole school, in addition to our sports day. These are organised by Mrs Kemish and have been a huge success. In 2018 we held a 500 Miles Day! Staff and pupils walked the school field throughout the day to collectively walk 500 miles. In 2019 we held an All Day Relay event. The children and staff ran in their houses (Inspiration, Determination, Respect and Courage) and Respect won the day!

Here at St Laurence, we also develop our staff through the means of team teaching in order to improve the quality of the teaching and learning. We actively access competitive school sport and provide an opportunity for all young people to participate in clubs at least once per year.

We achieve this in the following ways:

  • By accessing team teaching support from ESSP (The Erewash School Sports Partnership)

  • We affiliate to the ESSP so we can access an annual calendar of competitions and regularly look to arrange fixtures with local schools and also run an inclusive sports day annually for KS1 and KS2.

  • Pupil Premium children have access to extra PE sessions

  • We develop physical activity through intervention groups to support movement and health such as bike-ability delivery.

Competitions and Festivals

We are delighted that competitions and festivals are up and running again. We have signed up to attend lots of events, including football, gymnastics, racquet sports, cross country, basketball and many more!

We are really proud of our year 5/6 football team, who represented our school so well in the 7 aside competition during the Autumn term. In the Long Eaton stage of the competition they finished 2nd and qualified for the Erewash Borough Finals. At the finals they played really well and came 2nd in the tournament, only missing out on top spot by 1 point! Thank you to all the parents who came to support and help out.

In November, St Laurence took part in the Erewash Cross Country competition at Wilsthorpe School.

Our KS1 children ran ½ a mile, lower KS2 ¾ of mile and upper KS2 1 mile! All the children were fantastic and represented St Laurence superbly. We finished with one silver medal in the KS1 race and one gold medal in the lower KS2 race!!

In February, Year 2 children visited the Erewash Valley Gymnastics Club for a mini festival. They were able to use lots of super equipment and learned some new skills.
