What are the Sustainable Global Goals?

The Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals) are an initiative that was set up in 2015. Leaders from all 193 countries of the United Nations made the most ambitious plan that has ever been agreed to make our world a better place.

At St. Laurence we feel that it is important to feel part of the global community and decided that we wanted to link what we learn each term with a global goal. We want our children to see that small changes can make a big difference to everyone and help our school feel more connected with communities all over the world.

We held a school-wide launch day introducing our children to what the Global Goals are and each class took part in different activities to help them understand the importance of this global initiative.

In addition to class based activities linking a global goal to our primary learning challenge, we have also focussed, as a school, on plastic pollution in our oceans. Each class was asked to  share their learning with the class above them as part of a learning spiral and our day then culminated with a school assembly where our Year 6s shared what the school had found out about plastic pollution with Mrs Barker -they even offered some steps we could take in school to reduce the problem! 

This is Rob. we met him through the Lyfta website (https://www.lyfta.com). His story helped us to find out all about plastic pollution in the oceans and seas.
