EYFS
Hello and welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage at St Laurence
EYFS Lead: Mrs O'Boyle
HLTA: Miss Suiter
At St Laurence Primary School we aim to provide enjoyable and challenging activities that ensure every child makes progress in their learning at their own individual pace. Whilst we have a long-term plan, we also use observations of the children’s interests to help inform our planning. We will continually assess how the environment can be adapted to best cater for the ever-changing needs of each child. We aim for children to be well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient and confident in themselves and with others.
At St Laurence, we firmly believe that every child should be given a ‘voice’. To this end, we are passionate about developing early communication and language skills in our Early Years setting. Staff are trained in how to effectively encourage children to speak, and every opportunity is taken to develop children’s language skills.
In order to encourage an early love of reading, we have recently adopted the ‘Core Book’ approach in our EYFS. We hope that by the time the children leave EYFS they have in depth knowledge of nine stories that they are able to retell. The core books are chosen for their use of repetition, story structure and potential to trigger children’s imaginations.
